Clausen Nursery is a local establishment that has been serving San Diego for 85 years. Located in Vista, Clausen is a tree farm that offers any kind of tree for this area that you can imagine. They have a huge variety of fruit trees, berry vines and bushes, citrus trees, and ten varieties of avocado trees (priced at $22 for a 5-gallon and $71 for a 15-gallon–these prices blow my mind).
They also offer unique sub-tropical species such as Silk Oak trees, Lantana shrubs, and the unique purple-flowered Solanum which can be trained as a bush or a tree. The Solanum is priced at only $19.50 for a five-gallon size or $56.50 for a 15-gallon to give you an example of their super-affordable pricing. Check their website often for availability and prices. Rancho Soledad Nurseries, Inc. is located in Rancho Santa Fe in North County. They carry a wide range of succulents, tropical plants, and a particularly good variety of Agave, Aloe, Bromeliad, and Cycads. Their inventory includes several species of palm trees and many drought-tolerant plant and tree choices as well.
Rancho Soledad offers 25 acres of diverse and exotic plant life that is well worth exploring. Rancho Vista Nursery in Vista is your one-stop shop for affordable succulents and cacti of every kind. For 40 years, Rancho Vista has been a wholesale supplier of succulents and cacti, and they are now open to the public. If you’ve been wanting to create a stunning cactus or succulent garden, this is the place for you.
They have over 500 species of these amazing plants throughout their ten acres of outdoor and greenhouse growing spaces. The smaller plants are in 2.5″-14″ pots, with landscape plants ranging from one gallon to 15 gallon sizes. They also have 24″ boxed varieties.
Come and visit the grounds which have an astounding array of columnar cacti (in the thousands!) from 3-8 feet tall. Hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 am – 3:00 pm. South Coast Wholesale in San Diego DOES NOT sell to the public, but they deserve a mention on the list for their tree-moving and buying services in the community. For homeowners who want to get rid of certain varieties of palm trees on their property, South Coast will come and evaluate the location and type of tree and purchase it from you depending on the species and adequate crane access to the site.
